Mitu murder case: Babul denied bail again in Ctg
A court in Chattogram rejected the bail prayer again of former superintendent of police Babul Akter in a case filed over the murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu on June 5, 2016.
The court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman rejected Babul's bail petition today after hearing arguments from defence and prosecution, our Chattogram correspondent reports quoting public prosecutor Fakhruddin Ahmed.
Another court had also rejected his bail prayer in the case through a virtual hearing earlier on August 10.
On June 5, 2016, Mitu was stabbed and shot dead while she was taking her son to the school's bus stop at the port city's GEC intersection. After the murder, Babul filed a case against three unidentified men at Panchlaish Police Station.
Later the case was taken over by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) from the Detective Branch of Chattogram Metropolitan Police. DB investigators are currently probing the case.
On May 11, Chattogram PBI summoned Babul to its office for interrogation. He failed to give satisfactory answers to the detectives and was taken into PBI custody.
The following day, Mitu's father filed a murder case against eight people, making Babul the prime accused in the case, alleging that he is the mastermind behind the murder. Mitu's father also alleged that Babul killed his wife over extra-marital affairs with a woman.
PBI submitted the final report of the case before the court on the same day mentioning Babul Akter as the mastermind. Babul is now in Feni district jail.
