Miscreants torch Betel leaf garden in Jashore

Miscreants torched a betel leaf garden at Komorpole village at Keshabpur upazila of Jashore today.

According to locals, farmer Ujjal Hori cultivated betel leaf plants on the one bigha land, reports our Benapole correspondent.

The entire garden is engulfed in flames, and took people an hour to bring the fire under control, said the locals.

The loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 8 lakh, they added.

Ujjal Hori alleged that his garden was set on fire by rivals of chairman candidate Kazi Mustafizul Islam for the Sagardari Union Parishad election held on January 5, as he campaigned for Mustafizul in the election.

Borhan Uddin, officer-in-charge of Keshabpur  Police Station, said the affected owner lodged a complaint at the police station in this regard.

"We will take legal steps against those involved in the crime after investigation, the police official told this correspondent.
