UP member rapes woman in front of husband in Ctg

A 30-year-old garments worker was raped by a Union Parishad member of Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram in front of her husband, said police.

The accused UP member Rabin Chowdhury of Sonaichari union's Ward 8 fled the scene soon after the incident, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent quoting police.

The victim has been admitted to the One Stop Crisis Centre of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said police. 

The incident took place at around 10:00pm Saturday night. 

Officer-in-Charge Tofayel Ahmed of Sitakunda Police Station told The Daily Star, "Rabin picked up the woman with the help of two cohorts on her way to home from workplace and raped her near in a tin-shed house. During that time he was drunk and raped the woman several times, tying her husband to a pole." 

"They also looted mobile phones and gold ornaments from the victim. Later, when they escaped, the woman called 999 for help and police rescued the couple at around 3:00am Sunday," said the OC. 

OC Tofayal said police are trying to arrest the culprits.
