A court in Satkhira today sentenced a man to death for killing his wife for dowry in Tala upazila in 2010.

The convict is Kartik Kumar Ghosh (40), son of Tejendra Nath Ghosh of Tala upazila in Satkhira, reports our local correspondent. 

The court also acquitted five other accused in the case as the allegations brought against them could not be proved.

According to the prosecution, Kartik beat his wife Shipra Ghosh to death for dowry in Rajendrapur village on May 13, 2010.

Later, the victim's mother filed a murder case with Patkelghata Police Station under Tala upazila.

On October 13 the same year, police submitted a charge sheet against six people, including Kartik, to the district court.

After examining 18 witnesses and documents, judge of Satkhira Women and Children Repression Prevention Court, MG Ajam, handed down the verdict today in presence of Kartik.
