Man sentenced to death for killing wife for dowry

A Chattogram tribunal yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife for dowry in Chattogram's Fatikchhari area.

Ferdous Ara, judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 of Chattogram, handed down the sentence in the presence of the convict, Mohammed Mohiuddin, at the court.

Meanwhile, the court acquitted two other accused in the case as allegations brought against them could not be proved.

According to the case statement, Mohiuddin of Datmara union under Fatikchhari upazila tortured his wife Sumi Akhter to death for dowry in his house in August 2019.

Sumi's father filed a case accusing the three. Police submitted a charge sheet to the court in January 2021 after an investigation.
