Man sentenced to death for killing madrasa student after rape in Faridpur
A court in Faridpur today sentenced a man to death for killing a madrasa student after raping her in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur in 2010.
The court also fined the convict Jindar Ali (36) Tk one lakh, reports our Faridpur correspondent.
Pradip Kumar Roy, judge of Faridpur Women and Children Repression Prevention tribunal, passed the order in presence of the accused, the court sources said.
According to the prosecution, Jindar Ali had been eve-teasing the student for a long time and he also threatened her with death as she refused to marry him.
On May 20, 2010, Jindar Ali took the then 20-year-old girl to a jute field and raped her. He later killed her while she was returning home from Narail Islami Foundation Hospital.
Her body was recovered from a ditch on May 21 the same year.
Later, the victim's father filed a case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act against some unknown persons with Boalmari Police Station.
Police submitted a charge sheet to the district court accusing Zindar Ali on August 31, 2013 and later arrested him.
On July 30, 2013, Jindar gave a confessional statement before a judicial magistrate where the accused confessed to killing the girl after rape.
