Man killed on suspicion of tipping off Rab, family claims
Unidentified criminals have killed a businessman allegedly for tipping off Rapid Action Battalion in Indurkani upazila of Pirojpur.
The deceased was identified as Zakir Hossain (50), of Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat. He was a wholesaler of locally produced bananas and betel nuts, reports our Pirojpur correspondent quoting Md Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Indurkani Police Station.
Criminals attacked Zakir with sharp weapons last night while he was returning home from Pattashi Bazaar in Indurkani. Locals rescued Zakir from a garden in the area and rushed him to Morelganj Upazila Health Complex from where he was transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital. He died at KMCH, the OC said.
In March this year, a Rab team arrested a criminal named Rasel Mollah, 32, from the area. There are 14 cases against Rasel with different police stations.
Zakir's family members claimed that he was killed on suspicion that his tip off to Rab led to Rasel's arrest.
Zakir was killed for prior enmity, said the OC.
