Man killed, several injured in Munshiganj clash over land dispute

A man was killed and several others injured today during a clash over land dispute in Munshiganj's Sirajdikhan upazila this afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Md Sharif alias Falan, of Char Ghulghulia under Basail union of the upazila.

AKM Mizanul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sirajdikhan Police Station, said the clash broke out around 11:30am. There had been a long-standing land dispute between the two groups in the area.

"We came to know that one person was killed in the attack," the OC said.

The clash lasted for several hours as both groups attacked each other using harpoons and sharp weapons, leaving several others injured, police officials said.

Sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital said five injured were brought to the hospital where doctors declared Sharif dead.

Four other injured -- Yeakub, 34, Md Yousuf, 36, Nayeb Ali, 40, and Faruk Hossain, 33 -- are receiving treatment at the hospital.
