A court in Faridpur sentenced a man to death for killing a girl by setting her on fire after raping her in Alfadanga upazila of the district in 2011.
The death convict is Md Sahabuddin Khan (35), son of Sekendar Khan of Dalairchar village under Alfadanga upazila, reports our Faridpur correspondent.
The court also sentenced Sumon Khan (32), younger brother of Sahabuddin, to life term imprisonment in the murder case.
Dipok Kumar Roy, judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Faridpur, handed down the verdict in presence of the convicts, said Public Prosecutor Sawpan Pual.

According to the case statement, Sahabuddin developed a love affair with his neighbour an eighteen-year-old girl and sent a marriage proposal to her house but her family rejected the proposal.
On March 8, 2011, Sahabuddin managed a signature of the girl on white paper stating that he had married her. Later, Sahabuddin rented a house in Alfadanga upazila where they lived one month. When the victim asked Sahabuddin whether he married her and sought the marriage certificate, Sahabuddin replied that he had married her with a fake marriage certificate to take revenge.
Sahabuddin set the girl on fire when she came to his house on June 27, 2011. His brother Sumon also beat her up with a stick at that time.
Later, her family took her to Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital from where she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital burn unit. On July 11, the girl died while undergoing treatment at the DMCH.
On July 4, the victim's father filed a case against Sahabuddin, Sumon Khan, his mother Asiya Begum and Sumon's wife Jhuma Begum.
Later Sahidul Islam, the then sub-inspector of Alfadanga Police Station, submitted a charge sheet against the four on November 29 the same year.
