Man gets death penalty for rape, murder of minor
A Narayanganj court yesterday sentenced a man to death for raping and murdering a minor girl in the district's Rupganj upazila in 2006.
Judge Nazmul Haq Shaymol of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict.
According to the case statement, Mukmina, 10, of the upazila's Birabo Bazar area, went missing on January 13, 2006, on her way to a tailor. The next day, her body was found in a bamboo bush near her home.
The victim's mother filed a case with Rupganj Police Station following the incident.
During primary investigation, police confirmed that the girl was raped before being murdered.
On June 15, 2009, the Criminal Investigation Department submitted charge sheet accusing three men.
Of them, Nazim Uddin, 40, now into hiding, was convicted yesterday. The other two accused were acquitted.
