Man gets 7 yrs over 'hurting religious sentiments'

A Rajshahi court today (November 10, 2022) sentenced a man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment in a case filed under the Information and Communications Technology Act.

According to court sources, Sujon Mahanta, 37, son of Joypurhat's Panchbibi upazila, was sued for "hurting religious sentiments" after he posted a photo on Facebook on February 1, 2017, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent.

He was also fined Tk 1 lakh, in default of which he would have to serve another three months in prison.

He was arrested by Panchbibi police the same day.
