Man died by suicide after murdering wife, daughter in Savar, police say
A man has died by suicide after he killed his wife and nine-year-old daughter in Ashulia's Pobnartek area in Savar, police said.
After receiving a call from 999 hotline number, police recovered three bodies from a room at their rented house around 10:00pm last night, our Savar correspondent reports.
The deceased was identified as Shobur Ali Mia (28), a battery-run auto-rickshaw driver, his wife Rozina Begum (25), a garment factory worker, and their daughter Shumiya Akter (9).
The couple with their child lived at a rented house owned by Fozor Ali, said police.
Al-Mamun Kabir, sub inspector of Ashulia Police Station, said, "We found Shobur's body hanging from the ceiling fan while bodies of his wife and daughter were on the ground."
In primary investigation, police suspected that Shobur might have committed suicide by hanging himself after killing his wife and daughter after a domestic dispute, the SI said.
Cause of the deaths will be ascertained following autopsy reports.
Shobur's younger brother Shohid Ali said, on November 2 Shobur bought the auto-rickshaw with Tk 60,000 with his wife's money and by mortgaging a piece of land.
The next day two fraudsters, in the guise of passengers, had stolen his auto-rickshaw from Jamagarh Banga Market area. Shobur and Rozina had arguments over the stolen auto-rickshaw.
When asked the stolen auto-rickshaw, SI AL Mamun said they have not been informed about the theft. They would look into the incident, he added.
