Man arrested for throwing acid on, killing coworker who rejected marriage proposal

A woman was dead after a coworker threw acid on her and beat her for rejecting his marriage proposal.

The incident took place in front of a leather factory in Jashore's Abhaynagar upazila last night, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Abhaynagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge, AKM Shamim Hasan. 

The deceased was identified as Keya Begum (25). She worked in SF Industries -- a leather factory -- as a labourer. Shamim Hossain (27), the alleged killer, also works at the same factory, said the OC.

Shamim had been putting pressure on Keya to get married to him for a long time, according to witnesses and locals. Shamim forcefully took her to a marriage registry office yesterday. He threw acid on Keya after she refused to accept his proposal.

Shamim then struck Keya while she was in agony from the acid attack. Keya was later rescued and taken to Khulna Medical Hospital by locals. She died at the hospital while undergoing treatment.

Shamim was detained by locals and handed over to police, said the OC, adding that a case has been filed against him in this regard.
