Man arrested for stabbing toddler daughter to death in Thakurgaon

Police today arrested a man for allegedly stabbing his two-and-half-year old daughter to death in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.

The arrestee is Zakirul Islam (32), a resident of Sercarpara village of the upazila, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent quoting police. 

The incident took place around 11:30 pm last night when Zakirul engaged in a quarrel with his wife Shahnaj Begum (30) and tried to attack her. After Shahnaj somehow managed to flee the scene, enraged, Zakirul locked the door of their house from inside and began beating their daughter Jannatul Ferdous, and at one stage stabbed her in the abdomen with a sharp scissor, said Md Atiqur Rahman, inspector (investigation) of Thakurgaon Police Station.

The toddler died on the spot from excessive bleeding, the official said, adding that police went to the spot on information this morning and arrested Zakirul in a case filed by the victim's mother in this connection.

Zakirul has been sent to jail after being produced at a Thakurgaon court this afternoon, Inspector Atiqur added.
