He took Tk 1 lakh and five tolas of gold from his wife, promising that he would go abroad.

The Criminal Investigation Department said this at a press briefing, after arresting Shanto Mallick (28) from Palong area in Shariatpur in connection with the murder of his wife.

Parul's father Ali Ahmed filed a murder case against Shanto.
The CID official said Parul was in Jordan for seven years. There she worked at a garment factory. Shanto's sister Tamanna used to do the same job with Parul in Jordan. Shanto got introduced to Parul through Tamanna.
Parul returned to the country in 2020 after losing her job during the pandemic. Then she got married to Shanto seven months ago.
The official also said Shanto killed his wife in a fit of rage after she asked for an explanation about the money that he took to go abroad.
He added that there is a case against Shanto in Manikganj under the Narcotics Control Act. He was also in jail in that case.
