Man arrested over rape of 2 garment workers in Narayanganj

Police today arrested a man on charges of raping two garment workers in Narayanganj's Sadar upazila.

One of the victims filed a case against the arrestee, Delwar Hossain (28), with Fatullah Model Police Station, our correspondent reports quoting police.

Quoting the case statement, Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Rakibuzzaman, told The Daily Star that Delwar and his wife live in a two-bedroom flat. One of the rooms is rented by the victims who work in a nearby garment factory.

On August 27, Delwar's wife went to her village. Later that night, when the two women returned home from work, they had dinner prepared by Delwar, who had previously put sleeping pills in the food, said the OC.

Delwar raped them after the sleeping pills went into effect, added the OC.

"Delwar was arrested today following a raid," said the OC, adding that "the victims were sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for medical examination."
