Kushtia journalist found dead, 5 days after going missing
Police have recovered body of the editor of an online news portal who was missing for five days in Kushtia.
The deceased was identified as Hasibur Rahman Rubel, editor of online portal Crime Vision BD. He also worked with the newspaper, Amader Notun Somoy, our Kushtia correspondent reports.
According to the police, locals found the body near an under-construction bridge, Shaheed Golam Kibria Bridge, on the Gorai river in Kumarkhali upazila around 2:45pm today (July 7, 2022).
A wallet, some money and an identity card were recovered from Rubel's pocket.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kumarkhali Police Station Kamruzzaman Talukder confirmed the incident. The body was sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said.
Rubel's office and family sources said, he was working in the office of the daily Kushtia Khobor building at Singer intersection in the town on July 3. Around 9pm, he received a phone call and went out of the office, saying to a peon that he will return soon. Since then, his mobile phone had been found switched off.
A general diary (GD) was filed by Rubel's family with Kushtia Model Police Station. Police were searching for Rubel, the police station's Officer-in-charge Sabbirul Alam said.
Meanwhile, a human chain and protest rally was held in Kushtia yesterday (July 6, 2022) to find the journalist.
Iti Khatun, wife of the journalist, said Rubel had been out all day on the day of going missing. She talked to Rubel once in the afternoon on July 3 when Rubel told him he would return home at night.
Iti alleged that her husband was killed due to the negligence of Kushtia police. She said that police had not taken appropriate steps to rescue Rubel.
