Killing of municipality staffer: Ex-Sujanagar mayor, Jubo League leader sent to jail
Thirty-three people, including a former municipality mayor and a Jubo League leader, have been sued on charge of killing a municipality employee and injuring the victim's brother in Pabna.
Among the accused, Tofazzal Hossain Tofa, former mayor of Sujanagar municipality and also an Awami League activist; and his brother Md Jewel, president of Sujanagar municipality's Jubo League unit; were arrested yesterday.
The two along with two other accused were sent to jail today, Officer-in-charge of Sujanagar Police Station Md Abdul Hannan told our Pabna correspondent.
On Monday, municipality employee Al Amin and his brother Rajab Ali came under the attack at Sadullapur in Pabna Sadar upazila when they were returning home after appearing before a court in connection with a case.
Al Amin died on the spot while Rajab was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Yesterday, Md Laltu, another brother of the victim, filed a murder case accusing 33 people including Tofa and Jewel, said Ataikula Police Station Officer-in-charge Md Jalal Uddin.
Another case was filed against them with Sujanagar Police Station last night for possessing firearms illegally.
According to the case, Al Amin was murdered following a previous enmity.
Police are trying to arrest the other accused, OC Abdul Hannan said.
Meanwhile, Sujanagar municipality workers and employees held a rally, and formed human chain demanding punishment of the killers.
