Jubo League leader in Natore held on charge of extortion

A local Jubo League leader was arrested today on charge of extortion in Natore.

The arrestee, Faisal Ahmed alias Sohel Faisal, is an executive member of Ward No. 3 of Natore municipality, reports our Natore correspondent quoting Mansur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Natore Sadar Police Station.

OC Mansur said Faisal, also a councilor candidate of the ward, has been trying to extort renowned local agriculturist Kamruzzaman.

Faisal is accused in several cases filed over different charges including extortion, the OC said, adding that he has been demanding a huge sum of money as extortion from the businessman to meet the costs of his election campaign.

On Friday, Faisal took Tk 42,000 from the businessman prompting the latter to file a written complaint with Natore Police Station, the OC said.

Based on the complaint, police arrested Faisal today from his residence.

He was later sent to jail through a court, added the OC.
