'Journalists won’t be arrested right away after DSA case is filed'
Law Minister Anisul Huq today said journalists will not be arrested immediately after a Digital Security Act case is filed.
"I've spoken to the home minister so that no journalist is arrested right away after a case against them is filed under the Digital Security Act," he said, adding that the home minister has replied in the positive.
Talking to reporters at his Secretariat office, the law minister said police will not record a case under DSA immediately.
Filing of the case will be subject to satisfaction of a cell, earlier created for Information and Communication Technology Act, he added.
The law minister said they are going to take action against those who misuse or abuse the Digital Security Act.
The minister claimed that the act was not formulated to curb freedom of expression and freedom of press.
The DSA was passed in the parliament on September 19, 2018. The journalist community has since been protesting it and demanding that several sections be amended to safeguard freedom of the press.
