The High Court today directed the authorities concerned to immediately give Tk 5 lakh as a cost for treatment to Tamim Iqbal, 12, of Laxmipur's Ramgati who was critically injured and lost his left hand in electrocution in September this year.

The court also issued a rule asking the authorities to explain in four weeks why they should not be directed to give Tk 10 crore to Tamim as compensation.

Energy and resources secretary, chairman of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board, general manager of Laxmipur Pally Bidyut Samity and other officials concerned have been made respondents to the rule.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed by Tamim's father Shahadat Hossain seeking necessary directives.

In the petition, Shahadat said his son was electrocuted on September 25 due to negligence of the respondents in ensuring safety.

Critically injured Tamim has been receiving treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Burn And Plastic Surgery Institute, he added.

Lawyer Jyotirmoy Barua appeared for the petitioner.
