Idols constructed for Durga Puja vandalised in Kushtia
Miscreants vandalised idols of Hindu gods and goddesses constructed for the upcoming Durga Puja in Kushtia town.
The incident might have happened last night, reports our local correspondent quoting police sources.
The idols were found broken this morning, said Advocate Anup Kumar Nandi, president of the district puja celebration committee.
It is a temporary mandap in Aruapara area under the banner of Aika Jubasangha, which is built every year ahead of Durga Puja, Anup said.
Artisans left the idols to dry after coating them with clay on Monday, said Rintu Pal, a junior artisan.
Police have visited the site and are investigating the matter, said Sabbirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station.
The responsible people will be identified and brought under the law soon, he added.
