Human chain protests acid attack on garment worker

Residents of Manikganj brought out a human chain yesterday, protesting an incident of acid attack on a female garment worker at Dhanakora Ferajipara village of Saturia upazila on January 26.

Prothom Alo Manikganj Bandhusabha organised the programme, where local social organisations Dishari and Jagarani Kishore Club were also present. Additionally, Shushasoner Jonno Nagarik (Sujan) and Pragati Lekhak Sangha took part in the programme by expressing solidarity.

They strongly protested acid attacks on woman and demanded maximum punishment for the attacker.

The attack took place on January 26, when Naeem Mallik of Manikganj Sadar threw acid at his ex-wife Sathi Akter, a garment worker in Dhaka's Dhamrai.

On Tuesday night, a team of Rab-4 arrested Naeem. He was later handed over to Saturia police and is now in the district jail, said police.
