Housewife gang-raped, 4 arrested

A housewife was gang-raped in a house in Habiganj's Madhabpur upazila on Wednesday night.

Police rescued the victim early yesterday and arrested four people, including a woman, in connection with the incident.

The arrestees -- Badsha Pathan, Jiban Mia, Lucky Akter, and Atiq Mia -- are from Madhabpur town.

Mohsin Al Murad, assistant superintendent of police (Madhabpur circle), said Atiq Mia was in a relationship with the victim.

Atiq brought the woman to Madhabpur town on Wednesday afternoon giving assurance of marrying her. They went to Lucky's house in Katihara village of Madhabpur, where the woman was raped by Atiq.

Badsha and Jiban Mia went there that night and also raped the victim, the ASP said.

Later, the victim managed to inform Madhabpur police about the incident. Police went to the house early yesterday and arrested the four.

The victim said she filed a rape case with Madhabpur Police Station yesterday.

Later in the day, a Habiganj court sent the arrestees to jail.

Madhabpur Police Station OC Abdur Razzak said the victim was sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital for medical examinations.
