House help was beaten to death over suspected affair: PBI
Three days after recovering the body of a female house help from the capital's Turag area, police yesterday said her employer beat her to death in their Niketan house and dumped the body to hide evidence.
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has already arrested house owner Syed Jashimul Haque (63) and his wife Syada Samina Hasan (60), on charge of killing the 30-year-old victim, Parveen alias Fancy Ara.
"Samina admitted that she beat Parveen to death, suspecting an 'extra-marital affair' with her husband," Md Jahangir Alam, PBI superintendent of police, Dhaka (north), told The Daily Star.
Narrating the incident at a press briefing at his office, he said around 9:00am on December 1, Samina beat Parveen indiscriminately with a stick. It was so severe that Parveen fell unconscious. The injuries eventually resulted in her death.
To hide the evidence, the couple took her body near the Turag in a private car with the help of driver Ramzan Ali and dumped it at the Jhawbon there.
PBI SP Jahangir said they identified the victim with technological support after recovering the body.
Parveen, hailing from Alokdihi Sarkar Para in Chilirbandar, Dinajpur, came to Dhaka with her husband Mominul Haque nearly two years ago. To earn a livelihood, her husband started driving rickshaws while she took up the job as a housemaid at the couple's house.
Mominul, who filed the murder case, told police that Samina used to beat his wife regularly and confined her to the house. The couple did not allow him to see her either, police said quoting Mominul.
