HC orders status quo on earth-filling, construction on Gendaria pond

The High Court yesterday directed the authorities concerned to maintain status quo for three months on earth-filling and construction of structures in a hundred-years old pond at Gendaria in Dhaka.
The authorities have also been ordered to submit a report after complying with the directive in two weeks before the HC.
The HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Showkat Ali Chowdhury passed the order following a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh seeking necessary directives.
The court also issued a rule questioning the legality of earth-filling and construction of structures in the pond.
Senior Advocate Manzill Murshid, appeared for the writ petitioner during the hearing of the petition, told reporters that earth filling and construction of structures on the hundred-year old pond in Gendaria cannot take place following the HC directive.
