HC clears way for trial of FR Tower's design forgery case
The High Court today cleared the way for a lower court concerned to run the trial proceedings of a case filed over forging design of FR Tower that was ravaged by fire in Dhaka's Banani in 2019.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman also rejected a petition filed by the building owners for quashing the trial proceedings, Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik told The Daily Star.
He said the bench passed the rejection order considering that the petition was not presented properly.
On March 28, 2019, a fire broke out at FR Tower, killing 27 people. Many were injured in the incident.
A Dhaka court on November 15 last year framed charges against 16 people, including Rupayan Group Chairman Liaquat Ali Khan Mukul, in the case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
The case was filed against the 16 over violation of building code in constructing FR Tower, raising it to 23 floors from 19 through fake clearance, and illegally mortgaging and selling the upper floors.
