Harassed for wearing teep: Constable admitted ‘incident’ with teacher, police say
Constable Nazmul Tareque, who was accused of harassing a college teacher for wearing "teep", has admitted to senior officials that an "incident" happened with the woman, police say.
"We identified the police personnel and talked to him. He admitted that an incident happened with the teacher, Lata Samaddar," Biplob Kumar Sarker, deputy commissioner of Tejgaon Division Police, told reporters at his office today.
"Now, we will find the fact through proper investigation of the general diary filed by the teacher," he said while replying to a query on whether Tareque said anything about the teacher's allegation of being harassed for wearing a teep.
Tejgaon College teacher Lata Samaddar complained that a policeman harassed and hurled abusive words at her after seeing a teep on her forehead while she was going to the campus on Saturday.
The DC said over last two days, they worked tirelessly to identify the policeman after the teacher filed the general diary.
Tareque is working with the protection division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Replying to another query, the DC said "We do not need to take him in custody. He is a policeman…We will talk to him anytime, if necessary, during investigation of the general diary."
Biplob Kumar said so far they found that the motorcycle, mentioned in the teacher's general diary, belongs to the constable and has valid papers.
