Girl, abducted by group she met on TikTok, rescued by Rab
Rapid Action Battalion last night rescued an eighth grader from Mymensingh who was kidnapped from Dhaka by members of a group she met on TikTok.
A team of Rab also arrested a kidnapper, Raihan Hossain (22) from the capital, said Joyita Shilpi, deputy director of Rab-4.
The 15-year-old girl went missing after she went out of her Kafrul residence to go to her school on September 12.
Raihan along with others tricked her into going into a house in in Norda area that day and later took her to Gafargaon in Mymensingh, she said.
Rab carried out the drive after the family filed a general diary with local police station and sought Rab's help to rescue the victim, Joyita added.
The girl was motivated by the TikTok group members after participating in regular live chats, Joyita, also the superintendent of police, told The Daily Star.
The group has at least eight members; all aged between 20 and 22. Two of the group members—Rafsan and Sadequr-- stay in Saudi Arabia, Joyita said.
The group members tend to establish cordial relationship with school-going girls and misguide them with proposals for love affairs, the Rab official added.
So far Rab did not find involvement of human traffickers with the group members.
Arrestee Raihan used to work as a driver at a private firm.
Two of his associates, Khokon, an employee of a private firm and Robin, an employee of a barbershop, are on the run, Rab said.
