Four posing as DB men arrested from Dhaka’s Gabtoli

Detectives claimed to have arrested four men posing as members of Detective Branch of police from Dhaka's Gabtoli area last evening.

A team of DB, from Khilgaon zonal team, arrested them along with DB police uniform, a walkie-talkie, a pistol and a toy pistol, DB Additional Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akhter told a press briefing today at DMP media centre.

The arrestees -- Mamun Mondal, Ali, Ahmed and Sumon Sheikh -- were members of a gang that extorted money from people using their fake identities.

The DB official said they came to know about the gang while investigating a case filed with Rampura Police Station on August 30 for snatching Tk 5 lakh.

On August 29, a group of people picked up one Mosharraf Hossain after he withdrew Tk 5 lakh from a bank in Rampura area. They took the money and later dropped him off from the car in Narayanganj, he said.
