Former employee of EC among 3 brokers arrested in Ctg with NID applications

Three brokers, including a former employee of Election Commission (EC), were arrested with several national identity (NID) applications and correction forms from Chattogram regional EC office.
The arrestees are Md Imtiaz Mahmud, former employee of Chattogram EC office, Md Nur Hossain and Md Jahir Hossain Mamun. Of them, Mamun was arrested in the evening from Pahartali area while Imtiaz and Nur were handed over to the police by EC officials on Monday evening.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Md Nezam Uddin said Imtiaz and Nur Hossain were held by Election Commission officials with several NID applications and correction forms while they were roaming around in EC office.
"During interrogation of Imtiaz and Nur, police came to know about Mamun and arrested him around 3:30pm today. They are members of a syndicate which makes NIDs by forging documents," said the OC.
OC Nezam also said, "For each NID, they take Tk 20,000 to Tk 30,000 and the forged NID is used for job or other purposes."
Chattogram EC Regional Officer Md Hasanuzzaman told The Daily Star, "Following their suspected movements, we challenged them and later held the duo along with NID corrections forms. We told police to take a step against it and we will also testify against them."
Police filed a case with Kotwali Police Station while DB north zone of CMP will investigate the case, said the OC.
