Film actress Eka detained for torturing house help
Police detained film actress Eka from her house in Dhaka's Hatirjheel area on charge of torturing her house help.
The victim Hazera Begum, 30, took treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for wounds on her left hand and head.
Golam Azam, inspector (operations) of Hatirjheel Police Station said they detained Eka from her house in the afternoon after locals called 999 and complained of her torturing Hazera.
Eka hit Hazera with a solid object, the police officer said, quoting victim's family members.
Hazera's husband Rafiqul Islam said his wife works as domestic help at several houses, including Eka's, in the area. She used to do household work at Eka's house in the afternoon.
But, the actress today called Hazera go to her house in the morning. As she reached, Eka told her to work for her the whole day as she was packing to move, he said.
"My wife refused to work whole day, saying she has to go to other houses too. Besides, she demanded her monthly pay. Angered, the actress hit her with a brick," he claimed.
Mohiuddin Faruque, inspector (investigation) of Hatirjheel Police Station said during the drive, they recovered five pieces of yaba, some cannabis and half bottle of liquor from her house.
Filing of two cases -- one for torturing the house help, and another for possessing drugs -- against her are underway, he said.
