Faking identity to avoid arrest

Woman held over husband’s murder after five years

Over 10 years ago, Saleha Khatun Sheuli killed her husband in Pallabi, with the help of five to seven people.

She was arrested in the case filed following the murder on October 26, 2012. However, she walked out of jail after securing bail five years ago and went into hiding.

She took the pseudonym "Shila" and faked her father's name and address. She remarried, after which she started living in Pallabi, dodging the eyes of law enforcers ever since.

However, she could not save herself from being arrested by a team of Pallabi police.

Deputy Commissioner of DMP's Mirpur division Jashim Uddin Mollah yesterday disclosed Saleha's arrest on Wednesday at a briefing at his office.

"When confronted by police officers, Saleha denied her true identity. She threatened the police team of lodging a complaint against them for harassing her," said the DC.

Later, police called an expert who took her fingerprint, which revealed her real identity, he added.

On December 6, 2017, a Dhaka court sentenced her to death for killing her husband Md Mohsin, a former member of the army, over her extramarital affairs.

According to the prosecution, Mohsin used to live in the city's Pallabi area with his wife and two sons. The couple used to fight often over her relations with other men.

During the investigation, Saleha Khatun gave a confessional statement before a magistrate where she said she killed her husband with the help of some miscreants after he found out about her affairs.
