Ex-SP Babul's case against 6 PBI officials dismissed
A Chattogram court has dismissed a case filed by former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akhter against PBI chief Banaj Kumar Majumdar and 5 others on charge of torturing him in custody.
Babul is now behind bars in a case filed over the murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.
The court of Chattogram Metropolitan Session Judge Begum Jebunnesa dismissed the case today (September 25, 2022), reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.
On September 8, Babul Akter lodged the complaint against the PBI head and five others -- PBI's Chattogram District SP Nazmul Hasan; PBI Ctg metro unit SP Naima Sultana; former investigation officer of Mitu murder case and Officer-in-Charge of CMP Khulshi Police Station Sontosh Kumar Chakma; former PBI inspectors AKM Mohiuddin Selim and PBI Kazi Enayet Kabir.
Babul's lawyer advocate Golam Mowla Murad submitted the complaint to Metropolitan Session Judge Begum Jebunnesa on September 8, bringing the allegation that his client was tortured physically and mentally when he was taken into PBI custody before his arrest in the Mitu murder case.
On June 5, 2016, Mitu was stabbed and shot dead when she was walking her son to his school-bus stop at the port city's GEC intersection. After the murder, Babul filed a case against three unidentified men at Panchlaish Police Station.
PBI took charge of the case, which Babul filed with Panchlaish Police Station against three unnamed accused, from Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) in February 2020 and started further investigation. Babul was shown arrested in the murder case on May 2021.
