Ex-BCL leader Babli charged in Dhamrai cattle theft case

Dhamrai police today pressed charges against seven people including Babli Akhter, former student affairs secretary of Dhaka district north unit of Chhatra League, in a case filed over cattle theft last year.

Six others accused are Mohammad Habul Sardar, Arif Hossain, Raju Ahmed, Shahdat Hossain, Saidul Islam and Mohammad Morshed.

Babli is now out on bail while the others are in jail.

Mohammad Ashraf, sub-inspector of Dhamrai Police Station and the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet in the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court.

Several incidents of cattle theft took place at different times in Dhamrai in October last year and several cases were filed with Dhamrai Police Station during the period.

During the investigation of the cases, it was found that Babli Akhter used to take possession of the stolen cows and sell those, the case statement added.

Abdul Latif, a cattle farm owner of Larua-kundu area under Kulla union in Dhamrai, filed the case against some unnamed people on October 30 a day after two cows were stolen from his farm.

Following the incident, Babli Akhter was arrested from Nayabari in Savar municipality area on November 2 last year and later she was relieved of her party's duty.

Police also arrested others from different places.
