DSA case: Woman gets 31 months in jail for 'hurting religious sentiment'

A Dhaka tribunal today sentenced a female student to two years and seven months of imprisonment in a case filed under the DSA on charges of hurting religious sentiment.
However, the judge directed the jail authorities to release the convict if there is no other case against her as she has already spent two years and seven months in jail.
Judge AM Julfiker Hayet of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal handed down the sentence in the presence of the convict after she confessed to the offences and sought mercy.
In her mercy petition, the 23 years old woman told the court that she was arrested on November 6, 2020, following a case filed against her with Darussalam Police Station over her remarks on Facebook.
She has a child who needs to be breastfed. Following her mercy petition, the judge gave the verdict.
A case under the Digital Security Act was filed against her after her arrest.
