3 Digital Security Act cases filed against Murad, Nahid

Three cases were filed today against Dr Murad Hassan, former state minister for information, and Mohammad Mohiuddin Helal Nahid, a Facebook live talk show host, under the Digital Security Act.

The cases were filed in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Sylhet. 

DHAKA

Advocate Omar Faruk, general secretary of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum, Dhaka Bar Unit, filed the case with at Dhaka Cyber Tribunal.

According to the case statement filed by Omar Faruk, Murad Hassan and Helal Nahid used "profoundly vulgar, misogynistic, and derogatory language" against the Zia family and Zaima Rahman during a Facebook live and disseminated false information.

Murad Hassan also shared the interview, which was broadcasted live by Helal Nahid from his verified Facebook page.

It further said that they were sued under sections 25, 29, 31 and 35 of the Digital Security Act 2018.

RAJSHAHI

AKM Saiful Islam, senior joint convener of Bogura district unit of BNP, filed the case with the cyber tribunal of Rajshahi at 11:30 am, Ismat Ara, the court's public prosecutor, said.

Ismat said the court, however, ordered scheduling a date for filing the case. The date would be announced later in the day, she said.

The case was filed under sections 25, 29, 31, and 35 of DSA of 2018 for making offensive comments on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his daughter Zaima Rahman, the public prosecutor said.

SYLHET

Another case was filed at Sylhet Cyber Tribunal by Advocate Md Tanvir Akther Khan of Sylhet District Bar Association.

The hearing of the case was scheduled for December 15 by the tribunal's Judge Md Abul Kashem, said the plaintiff, Advocate Tanvir.
