DSA case filed against DU teacher for hurting religious sentiment
A case has been filed against a teacher of Dhaka University under Digital security Act for hurting religious sentiment on a Facebook post.
Amit Bhowmik, general secretary of Bangladesh Hindu Juba Parishad, filed the case against Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, professor of Law department, with Shahbagh Police Station yesterday, said Officer-in-Charge of the police station Mahfuzul Haque Bhuiyan.
According to the case statement, Sheikh Hafizur Rahman on July 22 made a defamatory post on social media which went viral.
Hafizur Rahman has intentionally hurt religious sentiments through the post and has damaged communal harmony and created religious extremism, added the statement.
Talking to our DU correspondent, Professor Hafizur Rahman said he apologised for his statement on Facebook and deleted the post.
"I had made the post as a joke. If my writing hurts people of any community, it was not right at all. I was unaware that my writing would hurt their religious sentiments. I apologised for the statement and have already deleted the post," added the professor.
OC Mahfuzul Haque Bhuiyan said they will take further step after an investigation.
