‘Driver’ Hanif not DNCC staff, driving city corporation vehicle for 3 years: Rab
Driver Md Hanif, who was arrested over the death of Ahsan Kabir Khan in Dhaka's Panthapath on Thursday, is not a staff of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) but has been driving its vehicle for about three years.
He was driving the compactor vehicle that hit Khan, a pillion rider of a motorcycle. Hanif was driving that particular vehicle for over a year.
Rab's legal and media wing director Khandaker Al Moin said these at a press conference after a team of Rab-2 arrested Hanif alias Fatik from Chandpur yesterday.
Moin said Hanif started working as assistant of a technician six to seven years back at a workshop where vehicles of DNCC are repaired.
Due to his good liaison with a DNCC staffer, Hanif got the opportunity to drive various types of light and heavy vehicles of the city corporation, Moin said quoting the arrestee.

He was not a listed employee or driver and was not paid a fixed salary for driving the DNCC vehicles. His source of income is selling 17 to 22 litres of oil that he used save daily, the Rab director said.
The garbage dump truck is a heavy vehicle but he could show a license that allowed him to drive light vehicle, like cars, only, Rab said.
During primary interrogation, Hanif told Rab that he did not know the name of the driver to whom the vehicle was allotted.
Ahmed Kabir Khan (50), a garment accessories trader and a former employee of the Bangla daily Prothom Alo, died after the DNCC truck hit him in Dhaka's Panthapath.
Police had seized the vehicle but its driver fled the scene at the time.
A day before this incident, Nayeem Hasan, a student of Notre Dame College, died after a vehicle of DSCC hit him while crossing the road in Gulistan.
