Death of university student Nadia: Police arrest bus driver, helper
Police today arrested the driver and helper of a Victor Paribahan bus that hit a motorcycle, killing a female private university student in Dhaka's Bhatara yesterday afternoon.
The arrestees are, driver Md Liton, 38, and his assistant Abul Khayer, 22.
A team of police arrested them around 8:15am from Badda area, said Abdul Ahad, deputy commissioner of Gulshan Division Police.
The victim, Nadia, 22, was a first semester student at the pharmacy department of Northern University.
The arrests were made ahead of demonstrations planned by a section of students of the university this noon, protesting the death of their peer.
Nadia was the pillion rider on her friend's motorcycle which was hit by a Malibagh-bound bus of Victor Paribahan near Jamuna Future Park around 12:45pm yesterday. Police seized the bus after the accident.
A case was filed in this connection.
