Death row convict arrested after 20 years from Ctg
Members of Rapid Action Battalion in a drive last night arrested a death row convict of the gruesome Jane Alam murder, who has been absconding for 20 years, from Chattogram city's Nimtala area.
The arrestee is Jashim Uddin (50) of Lohagara upazila in Chattogram, reports our staff correspondent quoting Nurul Abser, assistant director of Rab-7 media wing.
"Jashim was arrested from Nimtala around 10 pm last night, said the Rab official.
He went into hiding soon after the murder of businessman Jane Alam. The victim was shot and hacked to death by a group of criminals in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram on March 30, 2002.
Following the incident, victim's son Tazbirul Alam filed a case at Lohagara Police Station accusing 21," added the Rab official.
A Chattogram court, during the trial of the case, sentenced 12 people including Jashim to death in connection with Jane Alam murder, for which eight others were awarded life term imprisonment. he also said.
Later, the accused filed an appeal against the verdict with the High Court which awarded 10 people including Jashim to the death penalty and two to a life term in jail after hearing, said Absar.
He was handed over to Lohagara Police Station, he said.
