Cutting hair of 3 children: Municipality mayor gets 4-week anticipatory bail

Halim Sikder, mayor of Gopaldi Municipality in Narayanganj, today got anticipatory bail for four weeks from the High Court in a case filed for humiliating three children by cutting their hair in public after accusing them of theft.
The HC, however, ordered Halim Sikder to surrender before the trial court concerned in four weeks in connection with the case.
The bench of Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Halim seeking anticipatory bail.
Earlier in the day, accused Halim, the joint secretary of Awami League's Araihazar upazila unit in Narayanganj, appeared before the HC bench seeking bail.
The HC granted anticipatory bail to Halim considering that he is entitled to it, Deputy Attorney General Imran Ahmed Bhuiyan told The Daily Star.
He also said there is no instruction from the government to move an appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court against the HC order.
Lawyers Sufiullah Haider and Md Mashiul Alam appeared for Halim during hearing of the bail petition.
