The High Court today ordered the police not to harass locals and family members of Tajul Islam who died allegedly in the custody of Rangpur police, until further order.

The court asked Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Amit Dasgupta to convey the order to Rangpur police administration and set December 1 for passing further order on the issue.

The bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman came up with the order during hearing a suo moto (voluntary) rule earlier issued by it.

During hearing today, the DAG told the court that the police are yet to receive viscera report on Tajul's death though the postmortem report indicated a normal death.

He also sought time from the court for further hearing on the matter.

DAG Amit Dasgupta told The Daily Star that he submitted the probe report conducted by the committee formed by Rangpur police.

The court prohibited him to disclose the content of the probe report, he said.

Tajul was reportedly tortured to death allegedly in police custody in Rangpur's Kaunia on November 1.

On November 2, the HC bench wanted to know about the alleged custodial death, the subsequent attack on law enforcers by a mob, and the government's steps taken on the issues.
