Custodial death of JCD leader Milon: Case against 6 policemen dismissed
A Dhaka court today dismissed the case filed against six policemen, including two OCs of Shahbagh and Ramna police stations, over the custodial death of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal vice-president of Dhaka city unit (north) Jakir Hossain Milon in March 2018.
Judge Md Asaduzzaman of Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge's Court passed the order finding no sufficient grounds to take cognizance of the charges against the accused in the case.
The case was filed against the accused on October 12 under section 15(2) of the Torture and Custodial Death (Prohibition) Act, 2013.
The policemen are Abul Hasan, OC of Shahbagh Police Station, Kazi Mainul Hossain, the then OC of Ramna Police Station, former SIs of Shahbagh Police Station Amal Krishna, Sujan Kumer Roy, Saidur Rahman Munshi, and Shahriar Reza.
Victim's uncle BM Waliullah, also a BNP leader, filed the case with the Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge's Court. Judge Md Asaduzzaman fixed October 17 for the hearing.
Milon was held on March 6, 2018 when he was returning from a programme at Jatiya Press Club. Family claimed he was tortured by Shahbagh poilce. He was later sent to jail after a three-day remand.
Milon was sent to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj after completion of his remand in a case against him filed by police. When he was produced before the court Waliullah and his relatives saw bruises on his body, they said in the complaint.
On March 12, 2018, as Milon fell sick, guards of the jail took him to DMCH where doctors declared him dead, Waliullah added.
