CU student sexual assault: 5 BCL activists placed on 2 days remand
A court in Chattogram today placed five activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on two days remand in connection with a sexual assault case filed by a female student of Chittagong University (CU) with Hathazari Police Station on July 20.
The court of Judicial Magistrate Farjana Yasmin granted the remand after hearing from Sub-inspector Mizanur Rahman of Hathazari police station who is also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case.
Earlier, police produced the BCL men seeking a seven-day remand prayer.
Rab arrested the perpetrators a few days back and Commanding Officer Lt Col Muhammad Yousuf of Rab-7 told The Daily Star that the arrestees told Rab they are involved in BCL activities.
Azim Hossain, 23, and Nurul Absar Babu, 22, are students of Chittagong University, while Masud Rana, 22 and Nur Hossain Shawon, 22, are students of Hathazari College, and Saiful Islam, 23, is a college dropout, said police.
