Court issues arrest warrant against Kanak Sarwar

A Dhaka tribunal today issued arrest warrants against Kanak Sarwar and Major (retd) Delwar Hossain in a case filed under Digital Security Act.

After accepting the charge sheet of the case, Judge Mohammad Ash Sams Joglul Hossain of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal passed the order, the tribunal's bench assistant Shamim Al Mamun told The Daily Star.

The judge also directed officer-in-charge of the police station concerned to submit the reports on implementation of the arrest warrants by November 22, he added.

On October 11 last year, one Jakir Hossain filed the DSA case with Shahbagh Police Station.

According to the case documents, both the accused spread offensive, false, defamatory and provocative information against significant persons and institutions of the state on digital platform.

On June 30 this year, Investigation Officer Mohammad Russell Mollah, also a Sub-inspector of Detective Branch of police, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka.

In the charge sheet, Kanak Sarwar and Delwar Hossain were shown as "fugitives".
