Corruption case against former Railway DG: HC clears way for trial
The High Court today cleared the way for the lower court concerned to run the trial proceedings of a corruption case filed against former director general (DG) of Bangladesh Railway Mohammad Belayet Hossain and ordered it to finish the trial in the next one year.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case in 2010 against Belayet and five others on charges of embezzling Tk 1.04 crore from the money allotted for purchasing roller bearings for the rail.
Today, the HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after summarily rejecting a revision petition filed by Belayet Hossain seeking exemption of the charges of the case.
Belayet's lawyer Rabiul Alam Budu told The Daily Star that his client is now out on bail in the case.
Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state during the virtual hearing of the case.
