Complaint filed at Ctg court against Prof Serajul Islam Choudhury postponed
A former Jubo League leader of Chattogram, who had placed a complaint accusing three persons including Professor Emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury of Dhaka University, for allegedly defaming Bangabandhu, today applied to a court to postpone his complaint.
The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Hasan Md Reza granted the application after Nazim Uddin Sujon (50), former joint secretary of Chattogram South Jubo League, submitted it, said Advocate Mujibur Rahman, the plaintiff's lawyer.
Earlier, a complaint was filed with a Chattogram court accusing Professor Emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury and two others of defaming Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in an article
The other accused are Rashed Rouf, associate editor of Chattogram-based daily Dainik Azadi, and one Nesar Ahmed, according to the complaint.
Rashed is the advisory editor of the book containing the article, and Nesar its editor.
Nazim Uddin told The Daily Star that "There were some mistakes in the statements of the case placed before the court. For this, I applied to the court through my lawyer to 'not press' the case."
"Talking to the lawyer, I will take my next steps," said Nazim Uddin.
Advocate Mujibur Rahman said, "We lodged the complaint as the plaintiff was offended reading the article."
"Now the complaint is postponed and there is a scope to resume the case if the plaintiff wants," he said.
According to the complaint, Nazim claimed himself to be a "pro-liberation and progressive politician". He alleged that Bangabandhu was defamed in an article titled "Sheikh Mujiber Gopon Shatru" (the Secret Enemies of Sheikh Mujib) by DU Professor Emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury in a book titled "Jatir Pita", published by Chattogram Academy on March 17 last year, marking the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation.
Meanwhile, the left-leaning parties of Chattogram condemned the filing of the complaint against Prof Choudhury.
