Communal violence in Begumganj: Former UP chairman among 4 arrested
Police yesterday arrested four people including a former Union Parishad chairman in a case filed over attacks and vandalism at temples and establishments of the Hindu community at Choumuhoni in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila during the Durga Puja celebrations.
The arrestees were identified as Harun-or-Rashid, former UP chairman of Senbag upazila, Md Anwarul Islam, Md Abu Taleb and Md Farhad, reports our Noakhali correspondent quoting Md Shahidul Islam, superintendent of police of Noakhali.
They were arrested from the district's Begumganj and Senbag upazilas after police analysed CCTV footage of the incidents, the SP said.
At least 181 persons have been arrested in 25 cases so far in connection with the incidents in Noakhali, he added.
