Clashes during SCBA polls: 13 pro-BNP lawyers get anticipatory bail
The High Court today granted anticipatory bail to 13 pro-BNP lawyers including Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president candidate AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and secretary candidate Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal in three separate cases.
They were granted anticipatory bail for eight weeks, or till submission of police reports in the cases.
The HC bench of Justice Md Salim and Justice Md Bazlur Rahman passed the orders following three petitions filed by the accused lawyers seeking anticipatory bail in the cases.
The petitioners appeared before the HC bench during hearing.
The cases were filed on charges of snatching away ballot papers of SCBA election, preventing police from discharging duties and vandalism during the elections on March 15 and 16.
SCBA election conducting sub-committee, its administration and police filed the cases with Shahbagh Police Station on the same dates.
Senior lawyer AJ Mohammad argued for the accused petitioners.
